Steve Oury  (2023)

NLR Northeast High School, UA Fayetteville

​Lakewood JHS:  NLR City Champion in the Mile and 880-yeard runs – 1982. School Record holder at Lakewood JHS in the mile (4:43.2) and the 880 (2:03). Qualified for the Pepsi National 10K road race in New York City placing 6th in the 14-and-under age group.

NLR Northeast HS:
  • 5A State Champion – 3200M in 1983
  • 4A State Champion – 1600M and 3200M – 1985
  • All-State in Cross Country – 1982, 1983, and 1984
  • Set the school record in the 3200M Run (9:32.9) and tied the school record in the 800M Run (1:56.4).  Also had the school record for 5K cross country (15:22) and the second fastest time in the 1600M Run (4:18.8)

UA Fayetteville:
Competed in Cross-Country and Track at UA in 1985-1987.

Post-College:
Road Runners Clubs of America Male Runner of the Year for Arkansas in 2000.

​To date Oury has coached 39 State Champion individuals or relay teams (including State Indoor, State Outdoor and Meet of Champions).  Two of his athletes were Nike National Champions in the Pole Vault.(2007 & 2008).  Oury was named the Arkansas All-Preps Track and Field Coach of the Year in 2015 and currently serves as Vice President of the Arkansas Track Coaches Association.
