Charles "Chuck" Hemiingway (2025)
Charles “Chuck” Hemingway was at the cusp of the resurgence in Arkansas track and field in the 1960’s, competing in distance events at Little Rock Central High School (LRCHS) and later the University of Arkansas. Coached by Clyde Hart and then by Clyde Horton, Chuck won Arkansas state cross country titles in his junior and senior years, setting state records both years, and won state mile conference and Meet of Champs titles in his junior and senior years, setting state records both years. Accepting a track scholarship to the University of Arkansas, a sledding accident in his sophomore year ended his running career, although he recovered enough to rejoin the U of A cross country team his senior year. Subsequently he enjoyed a long and successful military and law career and after retirement devoted his time to assisting homeless veterans and other vulnerable populations in a post-retirement career as a counselor. |
